In case you missed this yesterday — Congratulations to our No. 1-ranked (Class 3A) boys cross country team for staying unbeaten on the season and winning the Dan Huston/Steve Johnson team title in Waverly.

This is a huge meet with a loaded field. How tough was it?

The Tigers ...bested a field that included 7 ranked teams in 4A, the No. 4 team in 3A, and the Nos. 1 and 3 ranked teams in 2A.

Gilbert scored 74 points and finished 74 points ahead of runner-up and No. 11 (4A) Bettendorf.

Logan Bleich (2nd), Jacob Tallman (4th) and Carson Squiers (5th) were all near the front of the field individually.

The No. 12-ranked (3A) Gilbert girls also had a great day and finished 10th in a field that featured 12 ranked teams including the No. 1 team in 4A.

Sarah Feddersen (25th), Kaitlyn Dear (48th), and Abby Patel (55th) led the team.

The offensive line put together arguably its best performance of the season tonight in a 41-10 win over Carlisle. The boys were physical and played a key role in more than 400 yards of rushing offense.

Received a message from Gilbert Elementary Principal Staci Edwards this morning: Would you be able to come over at 1:10 p.m. today to watch Mrs. Klunder’s kindergarten class make elephant toothpaste?

No other information was needed before I responded: Absolutely!

After all, how ...often do you actually get to watch the production of elephant toothpaste?

OK, so it’s not literally that. Still, it’s very cool.

Dressed in their finest white lab coats and donning safety goggles for science, the students watched as Mrs. Klunder mixed hydrogen peroxide, yeast, soap, and water (there was also food coloring) to produce a cool foam that resembles toothpaste as it’s squeezed from the tube.

The science: A 10 out of 10.

The adorable factor of the students: A 100 out of 10.

Mr. Walker and his students who are taking Computer Science I at the high school visited our Gilbert Intermediate students Friday morning to show off the video games they’ve created in class.

The assignment was to create a game through foundational coding with Scratch, which is a ...high-level, block-based visual programming language aimed at children in an educational setting.

Today, our high school students got to watch as younger students played their games. Again, it was hard to tell which group had the bigger smiles — the younger kids playing the games, or the older kids watching their games be played.

SFM Mutual Insurance representatives Jason Clausen and Jason Willis visited Gilbert Schools on Thursday to present Director of Grounds Brent Randolph a check for the SFM Slips and Falls Safety Grand Program.

Gilbert Schools received the highest possible amount for the grant — $2,000! ...The goals of this grant include:
-To decrease the risks of wintertime slips and falls for employees.
-To provide equipment/resources that directly prevent winter slips and falls.

Thank you to SFM Mutual Insurance for the great partnership with our school district, and to Mr. Randolph for his diligent work behind the scenes to get this grant for Gilbert Schools. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
